There are many locations-beautiful and romantic- in lands abroad. This week I will begin with the country where love and romance is abundant.... Italy. There are many locations in Italy which are desirable for such an important and special event such as a wedding. I will begin with my two favorite cities, Venice and Florence. 

VENICE, the magical city, filled with violins and pigeons in St. Mark's square and lovers abound. There are several options for a wedding reception. Some of the more popular choices are: 

• rooftop terrace of a deluxe hotel. The Grand Canal view at sunset is unforgettable!

• cocktails in the garden of the top hotel in the city, followed by a formal dinner in a private salon with view on the lagoon.

• private palazzo on the Grand Canal. The caterer is top notch and will surely satisfy your guests' palate. Use of the palazzo includes one night's stay for the bride and groom. Imagine spending your wedding night on the Grand Canal, in your own palazzo.....even if for one night only.

• beautiful Palladian countryside villas located on the mainland, within a short drive from the city.  

FLORENCE....where the Renaissance began. Since Florence is located in the heart of Tuscany, the possibilities are many. 

• cocktails in the formal gardens of a 16th century castle, followed by dinner in the interior courtyard or in one of the beautifully appointed rooms. The view of the countryside and Florence is a sight to behold.   

• private villa, where you and your guests will stay. Poolside cocktails, followed by dinner in the garden or vineyard.  

• other possibilities include, rooftop terrace in the heart of the city; farming estates in the Tuscan countryside; typical restaurants in the heart of the wine country or in Florence.  

Venice and Florence are just two of the most popular locations in Italy, although other requested areas include Portofino, lake Como, Asolo and Siena, just to name a few. 

Next week I'll write about Rome and the Amalfi coast, the other two popular spots. Then to follow will be other countries, such as Greece and Austria.
